Volunteer Opportunities

The Buffalo Gap Historic Village is a non-profit organization. Its continued existence is dependent on donations of time and money from its friends. To maintain our level of dynamic programming, we are in need of the following volunteers. Detailed position descriptions will be found by clicking each underlined job title:

Store Clerks and Cashiers sell tickets, memberships, site rentals, and items from the store. You are the first person people see when they arrive and the last they talk to when they leave. You are the face of the Village and in a large part the face of Abilene and the surrounding areas.

Docents interpret the site to create a meaningful experience for our visitors. You will give guided tours of the buildings and artifacts on display as well as show how these roots of our cultural personality continue to impact our daily lives.

Administrative Assistants work in the office with our site manager and assistant site manager to answer phones, do research, and help maintain our collection of over 9000 artifacts.

Maintenance and Grounds volunteers will maintain the grounds and buildings of the site, mowing grass, repairing buildings, gardening, caring for livestock, etc.

Volunteer applications are available at the Village Mercantile or online in PDF format. If you are interested in any of these positions or would like to discuss how you can help, please let us know. For more information, call the Village at (325) 572-3365.

Of course, if you haven’t got the time to volunteer, you can still support the Village through your choice of membership options.
